Compassion and Ethics — Critical Components of Supervision

Presenter: Tyra P. Sellers, J.D., Ph.D., BCBA-D
Date: June 27, 2022
Time: 6pm-8pm ADT
CEUs Available: 2 CEUs (1 ethics and 1 supervision) available ($15 for members/$40 for non-members)

Abstract/Summary:
Individuals certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) must comply with specific requirements, including adherence with the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysis (BACB, 2020), the RBT Code of Ethics (2.0) (BACB, 2020), and accruing continuing education units specifically in supervision each renewal cycle. However, many behavior analysts receive little, if any, direct instruction on how to provide effective supervision. As leaders, they are responsible for developing and maintaining a wide range of behavior analysis skills and knowledge in others. An often overlooked, but critical skill is how to lead, supervise, and teach from a place of compassion. In this talk we will explore some components of compassion, the benefits of leading with compassion, and some strategies for how to increase compassionate leadership and supervision. We will also cover strategies for supervision that meets the requirements of the Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts and how supervisors can incorporate meaningful applied instruction related to ethics into their supervisory practices.

Learning Objectives:
  1. name the core components of compassion
  2. name at least 2 benefits of leading with compassion in supervisory practice
  3. name 2 strategies for incorporating ethics content into supervisory practices

This event will be recorded for member access, however CEU's will not be available via recording.
