APABA Public Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
To our members, colleagues, students, and allies in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis in the Atlantic Provinces,
The Atlantic Provinces Association for Applied Behaviour Analysis (APABA) is deeply concerned by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) recent decision to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) from its continuing education and course-content requirements. This change contradicts the core values of ethical and effective behaviour analysis, which must be inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of the individuals we serve.
Cultural humility and an understanding of systemic inequities are critical components of our work. By removing DEI requirements, the BACB is neglecting an essential aspect of professional development and diminishing the quality of services available to marginalized and underserved communities.
APABA remains committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in our profession. To uphold these principles, we will:
We invite those who share these values to join us in advocating for equitable practices within behaviour analysis. If you have questions or would like to collaborate on DEI initiatives, please contact us at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Laura Joyce (President) and the 2025 Executive Board

- Champion the integration of DEI-informed practices in behaviour analytic training and service delivery.
- Offer accessible CEU opportunities focused on cultural responsiveness and ethical service provision.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support equitable access to high-quality ABA services for all individuals.
- Encourage ABA professionals to pursue continued education beyond certification minimums to enhance their competency in serving diverse populations.
We invite those who share these values to join us in advocating for equitable practices within behaviour analysis. If you have questions or would like to collaborate on DEI initiatives, please contact us at [email protected]
