The Awards Committee has created information packets for three APABA awards that have been established. It is hoped that the awards will recognize initiatives of members, help spread understanding of ABA among the public and encourage students to enter our field. A brief description of the awards follows and more complete information will soon be available.

William L. Heward Behaviour Change for a Sustainable World Award
This award will be given to a project or a study that applies concepts and principles of behaviour analysis to promote sustainable practices and environmentally friendly behaviour change. We plan to invite middle school and high school students who participate in science fairs to submit projects for consideration for this award. Applicants must be living in Atlantic Canada to be eligible for this award.

The Marlene Breitenbach Award
This award is established to recognize a member of APABA in Atlantic Canada for their contributions to the field of ABA. Any member of APABA may be nominated for the award and nominations can be made at any time by members. The APABA Executive will review nominations annually and select a candidate who demonstrates excellence in personal practice in the dissemination of applied behaviour analysis and the ability to make ABA understood and accessible for laypeople.

The Verna O’Coin Memorial Bursary
Verna O’Coin was a much loved and respected member of the education community in New Brunswick. She will be fondly remembered for her many years of dedicated work in special needs education, and particularly for her work with those living with Autism. In her memory, a Professional Development Bursary has been established. The bursary (up to $250) will be granted to applicants who live in Atlantic Canada and who are seeking funding in order to pursue continuing education in the field of behaviour analysis. Members will be able to contribute to, or apply through the APABA website for this supplemental funding when they are attending professional development activities.
